Corbis hires media products executive as agency transforms
Corbis Images has hired a former business development executive from Reuters as senior vice president of media products to help the Seattle-based digital images agency leverage its new investments, including the UK-based Splash News photo agency.
Barak Ronen will be based in London, where he will be responsible for the companys media product development and commercial strategy, Corbis announced.
Corbis says Ronens hiring is aimed at leveraging the Splash News acquisition, as well as the recent photo-distribution partnership with The Associated Press and the Corbis investment in the freelance photo agency Demotix.
Its all part of the evolution of Corbis, a Seattle media company founded in 1989 as an art-licensing company. Today, Corbis -- which is owned by Bill Gates -- provides images to advertising, marketing and media companies. The Splash News acquisition gives Corbis clients access to celebrity images, while the AP deal and Demotix investment gives Corbis access to breaking-news content, allowing it to gain an edge over competitors such as Getty Images.
Ronen previously was vice president of business development and commercial policy at Reuters, the London-based news agency owned by Thomson Reuters.
In 2011 Corbis has focused on the transformation of its Media business to provide our customers worldwide the most compelling end-to-end Media offering in the market today, Gary Shenk, CEO of Corbis, said in a statement. Barak is a great fit to lead this effort given his broad industry experience and expertise developing innovative products and partnerships geared toward the highly competitive media marketplace.
