Celebrities pay tribute to Amy Winehouse

Tributes to Amy Winehouse poured in from fellow celebrities.

Producer Mark Ronson, who has worked closely with Winehouse, said in a statement: 'She was my musical soul mate and like a sister to me.

'This is one of the saddest days of my life.'

Many others took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness after the singer was found dead at her north London flat.

Sarah Brown, the wife of former prime minister Gordon Brown, wrote: 'Just heard the sad news that Amy Winehouse has died.

'At only 27 what a terrible waste of a great talent. Sincere condolences to her family.'

Singer and actress Kelly Osbourne wrote: 'i cant even breath right now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy will never forget the real you!'

Television presenter Piers Morgan said on the website: 'Such desperately sad news re Amy Winehouse.

'Supreme talent, terrible self-destructive addictive personality.'

Fellow singer LeAnn Rimes wrote: 'RIP Amy Winehouse. So sad to see such a talent gone and her life end in tragedy. This makes me terribly sad.'

Lily Allen wrote on Twitter: 'Its just beyond sad, there's nothing else to say. She was such a lost soul, may she rest in peace.'

Singer Jessie J tweeted: 'The way tears are streaming down my face. Such a loss.'

Musician Professor Green added: 'I really hope she's at peace now. I don't wanna hear any chat about it's her own fault, addiction is a powerful demon.'

A tweet from pop band JLS read: 'Times like this remind me why its so important to live life to the fullest!! Amy Winehouse you will be a LEGEND in all out hearts!'

Burlesque artist Dita Von Teese wrote: 'Devastated. I spent extraordinary times with Amy. She sang for me once for hours, it was the most beautiful touching thing. A huge loss.'

Actress Demi Moore wrote on Twitter: 'Truly sad news about Amy Winehouse. My heart goes out to her family. May her troubled soul find peace.'

DJ Chris Moyles added: 'Shocking terrible sad news about Amy Winehouse. Stunned. Thoughts go out to her friends and family.'

Presenter Davina McCall wrote: 'Amy Winehouse found dead at her home. So very very sad. A huge talent.'

Television personality Katie Price wrote: 'Omg how sad Amy Winehouse been found dead tragic. My thoughts are with her family xxxx.'

Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman wrote: 'Can't quite get my head round the news about Amy, such a talent, such a sad day, such a loss. RIP Amy x.'

Comedian Bill Bailey, a panellist on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, on which Winehouse once appeared, wrote: 'Poor Amy. She was a great guest on Buzzcocks, funny + outrageous. And a great talent. What a terrible waste.'

Sports presenter Gabby Logan added: 'So sad to hear about Amy Winehouse. Such an incredible talent. RIP.'

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood dedicated his show on Absolute Radio on Saturday to Winehouse, and also the night's reunion performance by his former group The Faces in Hurtwood, Surrey.

He said: 'It's a very sad loss of a very good friend I spent many great times with.'

Producer Salaam Remi, who worked on Winehouse's albums Frank and Back To Black, wrote on Twitter: 'Very Very Sad Day. Just lost a Great Friend and a Sister.'

He added: 'RIP my baby SiS Cherry Winehouse. Love ya always.'

Musician Jay Sean tweeted: 'just heard the shocking news of Amy winehouse's death. Absolutely tragic. Such a talented artist. So sad.'

Rapper Q-Tip added on the site: 'The last time I spoke 2 amy I told her let her light shine more.'

Referring to the age that Winehouse died, singer Billy Bragg sent a tweet saying: 'It's not age that Hendrix, Jones, Joplin, Morrison, Cobain Amy have in common - it's drug abuse, sadly 27club.'

The Hawley Arms, a Camden pub frequented by the singer, said in a statement: 'We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Amy's death. Apart from her extraordinary musical talent, she was a special person with a good soul and this should not have happened.

'We feel privileged to have known her and we will sorely miss her.'

Sylvia Young, of Sylvia Young Theatre School, where Winehouse was given a half-scholarship, described the singer as 'a wild spirit' who was also 'extremely bright'.

'We thought she would do very well in the musical field,' she told the BBC. 'Certainly she was a wild spirit.

'She was her own person, she would follow what she wanted to do, there was no question about that.

'I had to tell her off quite a bit because she was naughty at times because she was so bright.'

Her albums would continue to be 'absolute classics', she added, paying tribute to the singer's voice and lyrics.

US singer Carole King described news of the star's death as 'really tragic'.

She said she was 'very grateful' Winehouse had put her 'wonderful talent' into recording a version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow, a song co-written by King and Gerry Goffin.

King told BBC News: 'She did such a beautiful performance on it. I'm just grateful she gave that gift to Gerry and me and to the world. I just really hope that she's found peace now wherever she is.'
