United States' Abby Wambach scores her side's second goal during the quarterfinal match between Brazil and the United States. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Gabrielle Union, Seth Myers, Steve Nash and dozens of other celebrities were fixated on one thing: Team USA taking on Brazil in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup.
The game, which was wrought with questionable calls from the officials, at times enraged Union, who was perhaps the most prolific celebrity tweeter throughout the game.
"What is this ref doin???? She has singlehandedly changed this entire game...but we fight on!!! GO USA!!" she tweeted after a penalty kick saved by American goal keeper Hope Solo was called back.
But when American forward Abby Wambach headed a ball in the extra time to tie the game, she wasn't the only one who went nuts.
"Wambach!!!!" Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers tweeted.
"Wowwwwww! Goal was amazing," added NFL player Kerry Rhodes.
Some celebrities, like Steve Nash, lamented that they weren't watching the game live but were still celebrating with soccer fans watching the dramatic finish.
"Cant believe im watching this game on twitter! Epic & comedy reading the tweets," he tweeted.
And once they won in penalty kicks in overtime, even LeBron James took some time to tweet his congratulations to the women, who played down a man for the last 20 minutes of the game.
"USA!! #HopeSolo. Congrats ladies!" he tweeted.
"#TEAMUSA!!! GO!!!" P Diddy added.
But perhaps no one was as enthusiastic as Union, who continued to tweet about the win in excitement.
"Never give up....NEVER give up!!!," she tweeted. "Against all odds, when the cards are stacked against u...NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!"
