Some celebrities are using their star power to generate funds for the Bastrop fire victims.

Director Richard Linklaterfilmed a movie in Bastrop this time last year. Now he and the stars of his newest film are giving back to the community.

The last time Jack Black was in Bastrop, it was a much different place. He was on the set of the movie "Bernie." Black stared as a funeral director in an unlikely relationship with a rich widow, played by Shirley MacLaine.

On Sunday, one year later, Black came back to Bastrop. He met with families who no longer have homes and toured the fire ravaged areas.

"They welcomed us -- just great loving people," said Black. "I was heartbroken to hear about the devastation."

By his side was Linklater, who also lost his Bastrop home.

"I lost some stuff," said Linklater. "I have more. I'm fine. I had a house in Austin to return to. I'm really concerned with people who lost their house. I'm the lucky one that had another place to go to."

Linklater just so happened to have a private screening scheduled for September 18th at the Paramount in Austin. He opened up the red carpet to the public. All funds will go directly to the fire victims.

"When the fire tragedy happened everyone asked what we can do," said Linklater. "It was natural for us to put on a show. It's something we can do."

It was a heart-warming gesture to those like Bastrop firefighter Eli Shaburns.

"There's about six houses next to my house that are still there," said Shaburns. "Everything else is pretty much gone. I think it is a fantastic endeavor and it will be really beneficial. Every help we can get is appreciated."
