Celebrities to play ball to help kids slim down

A news conference is to be held in Charleston on Tuesday to announce details of October's "Slim Down the South Celebrity Softball Challenge." The event is being held Oct. 1 at Riley Parkin Charleston.


CHARLESTON, S.C. - Singer Darius Rucker and comedian Bill Murray will be in the dugouts as captains of celebrity softball teams playing to raise money to fight childhood obesity.

It's October's "Slim Down the South Celebrity Softball Challenge." The event is being held Oct. 1 at Riley Park in Charleston.

Money raised will be used by a nonprofit to fight childhood obesity in Charleston and around the nation.

Other celebrities are:Brian McNamara, Wendy Davis, Terry Serpico and Richard Bryant of Army Wives Lifetime TV Show, Top Chef Contestant Chef Ariane Duarte, Emmy-nominated television host and cookbook author Chef Marvin Woods, Mark Bryan and Jim Sonefeld of Hootie and the Blowfish, Bernie Salazar, Heba Salama and Ed Brantley of The Biggest Loser, Debbie Antonelli, Basketball TV Analyst John Post, Taylor Filansky, and Eric Bach of the Modern Gypsies and Expedition Impossible TV show.
