Amy Winehouse tribute portrait to be displayed at London tube station - Monsters and Critics

Amy Winehouse is to be commemorated with a painting at her local London train station.

Artist Johan Andersson painted the giant portrait of the deceased singer which will be displayed at Camden Town tube station near Winehouses home in North London.

The painting is part of a series the 25-year-old artist is creating for his 27 Club project, which documents the deaths of legendary musicians including Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin, who all died at that age.

I am very pleased that my work is being displayed where Amy lived, said Andersson, also from London. He added that he felt honoured to commemorate The Back To Black singers tragic life.

I was touched by her life and talent and the turmoil she faced at becoming a celebrity, he said.

Talking about the painting, the BP Portrait award-winning artist said that he wanted to create an emotive piece of art.

Her expression suggests a vulnerability, but there is an animated defiance in her eyes, he said.
